
Matt has a broad and deep background in all areas of consumer marketing and business development. In addition to helping found Terra Nova Marketing Solutions, Matt is currently leading two distinct businesses: McG Research, a consumer marketing consulting company, and Tohickon Creek TeamSystems, a company dedicated to building subscription-based Web solutions for youth sports associations and teams.

Market Research
- Qualitative and quantitative research to support new product development efforts for a Fortune 100 privately-held chemicals and textiles manufacturing company.
- Quantitative research to investigate the adventure travel interests of consumers for one of the largest leisure travel companies in North America.
- Survey research to assess the needs, attitudes, interests and satisfaction of online greeting card senders.
New Product Development
- Creation of a product development process, from the fuzzy front end of ideation to the commercialization of ideas and the creation of new consumer businesses of a chemical and textile manufacturing company.
- Assisting the largest online greeting card company to build a new subscription business model with over 2 million subscribers.
- Development of a new loyalty / membership program for one of the largest online auction sites.
Database Marketing
- Development of new customer relationship marketing capabilities, including the creation of a data warehouse, staffing plan and operational infrastructure for a leisure travel company.
- In-depth customer behavioral research for an online auction company leading to new service concepts and new business practices.
Corporate Development
- Strategic advisory support for the acquisition of the largest adventure travel company.
Prior to Terra Nova, Matt was a principal for Gruppo, Levey & Co., an investment bank for the direct marketing industry. Mr. McGahran provided strategic and transactional advice to clients and led the firm’s strategic advisory group.
Previously, Mr. McGahran served as Vice President of marketing for Barnes & Noble.com, where he was responsible for all database marketing efforts as well as partnership marketing. In this role, Matt was the business leader for all customer analytics efforts, the development of one of the largest customer-centric data warehouses in the industry, and the creation of promotional and direct marketing systems to drive sales through enhanced one-to-one marketing efforts. He also led business development efforts with the company’s largest strategic partners, including Yahoo!, MSN, and AOL, as well as the innovative acquisition of Cendant Corp.’s Books.com business. During his tenure, Matt developed cutting edge cross-channel marketing programs, including a credit card loyalty program with MBNA America that spanned the online and retail store businesses of Barnes & Noble, as well as the Barnes & Noble / Yahoo! free ISP service.
Matt’s earlier career was in the financial services sector. Most recently he was Senior Vice President of Business Development at Fleet Bank and Advanta’s credit card businesses, where he had oversight for all corporate development efforts including partnership marketing, portfolio and business acquisitions, and other business ventures. In this capacity, Mr. McGahran acquired over $2 billion in credit card receivables, managed the integration of the purchased portfolios, and led all pricing and risk management initiatives for the newly acquired customer relationships. Matt was responsible for the creation of Fleet’s largest co-branded and affinity credit card relationships.Mr. McGahran holds an M.B.A from Carnegie Mellon University and graduated with honors from George Washington University with a B.A. in Economics. He previously served on the Board of Advisors for Achex, Inc., an online payments company recently acquired by First Data Corporation.
