CATALOG OPERATIONS:
- We were retained by Catalog Age top 100 apparel cataloger to address weaknesses in operating metrics and to improve cash flow management process. Implemented outbound backorder save program. Developed a payment prioritization tool, and moved cash management from “putting out fires” to a disciplined 13 week planning horizon.
- Designed comprehensive reporting package for small consumer catalog owner so he could retire and still have his finger on the pulse of the business.
- We designed detailed cash flow projection model for key industry trade association.
- Retained by large general merchandise cataloger to review warehouse operations and quantify the savings from alternative capital investment opportunities.
- Evaluated the roll-out of a customer loyalty club for publicly held cataloger, including modeling economic trade-offs between discounts and productivity.
- Performed detailed review of marketing metrics for a midwestern hobby cataloger. Identified customer sub-sets for which to develop unique offers.
- Retained by start-up high-end baby gift catalog to bring financial discipline to the planning process. Focused management on a merchandise planning matrix and realistic forecasting tools.
- For small apparel cataloger, we reviewed third party fulfillment billing for contract compliance and errors. Advised on ways to modify operations to minimize surcharges.
MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS:
- Currently involved in several M&A assignments, including three sell-side with selective targeting, and a buy side broad-based search against pre-defined demographic and industry segment criteria.
- Retained by private equity firm to evaluate credibility of target’s demand projections.
- Retained by B-to-B cataloger to value the business and then sell it.
- We aided in divestiture of a division of a billion dollar multi-title cataloger. Prepared offering memorandum; compiled data room; scripted management presentations; and were instrumental in preparing analyses to convince asset- based lender to finance the transaction.
- Retained by private equity firm to validate that its target’s recent dramatic growth in ebitda was not influenced by any one-time, non-sustainable factors. Used detailed comp segment analysis to highlight improvements in circ productivity.
- Performed extensive due diligence for major trade show acquisition, including preparing projections which allowed the acquirer to estimate the profitability of various combinations of exhibitor and attendee sales goals.
- Reviewed the business plan of a target catalog looking to be acquired out of Ch. 11. Was able to document, based on target’s own operating history, that the projections were unattainable without significant (and historically unsubstantiated) improvements.
